In April of 2024, APM Steam Nuclear travelled to Newport, Michigan for an outage at Fermi Nuclear Station. Led by Superintendents Joel and Matt Smith, a team of 18 Control Rod Drive (CRD) Technicians was assembled for the assigned task. The scope entailed removing and replacing 20 Control Rod Drives.

The outage lasted from March 27, 2024 until April 15th, 2024 and ended with approximately 4,000 manhours completed with ZERO recordable injuries or quality issues! The team’s dedication to the Live Outage initiative impressed the customer and aided their success.

The scope of the job entailed a hot gas path, rotor out, and generator inspections on two gas turbines as well as a steam turbine major with multiple upgrades. Led by APM Superintendents Andrew Sims, Chester Manymules, and Kolt Carden, the 35-man crew excelled with the tasks at hand.
