Get the Buzz ... | APM Steam Nuclear Claims Victory at Plant Vogtle!

In January of this year, APM Steam Nuclear mobilized to Waynesboro, Georgia for an outage at Plant Vogtle. Led by six Superintendents, the 125-craftperson crew conducted the scope of three New mono-block rotors, new bearings, ninth stage diaphragm, full train alignment and various auxiliary work.

While many of the Life Saving Rules were implemented, Mechanical Lifting played a major role in the success of the outage.  The crews performed 14 LP rotor lifts, 6 inner casing and outer hood lifts each, all of which were critical lifts. Various other lifts included tool connexes, offices, diaphragms, diaphragm racks, bearings, and many other parts. All of these exercises were performed at the highest level and attention to detail.

We are immensely proud of the Steam Nuclear team’s performance onsite! The 55,520-manhour outage was executed with safety and quality at the forefront of the operation. APM Operations Division Leader, Mike Kehl, had this to say about the crew, “I am so proud of our leadership and craftsmen for a job well done. Everyone had to be very mindful of our Mentor/Mentee program.  Due to manpower shortages, we were able to employ quite a number of new employees/apprentices to get some experience not only in the Nuclear field, but to APM’s cultural pillars that we expect out of everyone”. Congrats and HUGE kudos to Greg Gibbs, Kevin Gray, Michael Stegall, Stephen Kotter, Joey Thigpen, Chris Pace and the rest of the crew for your success in Georgia!
