Good Neighbor Project Update | Summer with Purpose: Support and Spread Joy through Summer Service!

Est Read Time: 6 minutes

APM Good Neighbors,

Let’s make our summer count by caring for our community! Here are some great ways to kickoff summer service by donating at our upcoming Gulf Coast Blood Drive, serving as a Board Member for Sarah’s House, and volunteering with The Birthday Joy Program!

We are hosting a Blood Drive at the APM Pasadena LDC campus on Thursday, July 17th! The donor coach will be on site and accepting donations from 9am - 12pm. Many events and trainings will be occurring on campus that day, including our July CBS Luncheon, so be sure to stop by and save a life by donating blood. The Donor Coach accepts walk-ons, but we encourage you to secure a spot by booking your donation timeslot here.

We’re excited to share an opportunity for APM employees to get involved with a local nonprofit organization we’ve proudly supported in the past, Sarah’s House. The organization is currently seeking new board members to help advance their mission of supporting individuals affected by domestic violence and homelessness. Board members are asked to assist with fundraising efforts, strategic planning, and occasional community events. Meetings are held monthly, with a required 4-hour training to be completed in the fall (split over two sessions).

If you are passionate about community impact and would be interested in serving on the board, we encourage you to let us know. This is a meaningful way to contribute your time and talents outside of work while supporting a cause that aligns with our values. Please email Bonnie Martin by August 31st to express your interest or ask any questions.

The Birthday Joy Program is a Houston based nonprofit dedicated to bringing birthday celebrations to children in foster care, homeless shelters, group homes, and other disadvantaged situations.

Their mission is to encourage a sense of self-worth and a feeling of hope to children living in crisis through the joy of birthday celebrations. Learn more here.

Here are some ways to get involved and help a child feel celebrated on their special day!

Birthday Supplies Donation Drive

These supplies will go to creating Birthday Fixins Bags (for family celebrations at home) and Joy Bags (for schools with a high population of low-income families).

If you’re interested in donating, please bring your items to the Blue Donation Bin in the LDC Mixer. Thank you for your help in making magical birthday memories!

Shelter Party Volunteers

Shelter parties celebrate each child with a birthday in that month. Hosting these parties give children in crisis situations a chance to have celebrations they may not have otherwise. Volunteers have a chance to help make special childhood memories by running games and activities, serving food and cake, and helping set-up and clean-up.

There are two party dates coming up at the Bridge over Troubled Water Shelter (3811 Allen-Genoa Rd, Pasadena, TX 77504).

Saturday, July 19th

Want to see the impact of APM Good Neighbors in action? Our APM Gas Canada team raised $30,000 towards incubators for the Blue Water Health Hospital children’s department! For every day worked safely, the customer would commit $500, and by the time the outage wrapped up on March 29th, the crew raised a total of $30,000 from combined matched donations from TransAlta and GE! Know of another charitable success story? Share it with us, so we can recognize other ways our APM Family is supporting and serving in the community!

We look forward to seeing our Good Neighbors represent APM in serving our community!
