Employee Spotlight | Meet APM Subject Matter Expert, Sebastian Williams!

This month’s spotlight features APM Subject Matter Expert, Sebastian Williams! Sebastian started as a carpenter in 2016 after which he switched to the Millwrights Local 1192 in 2018. From there, he landed a job with APM and has been working here ever since! Outside of work, Sebastian is a loving father and husband. We are so excited to spotlight Sebastian! What’s one thing that surprised you about working with APM?
The people you meet. I’ve met a lot of great people, and even made a few friends along the way.
What is a typical workday for you?
I wake up and put my boots on. I work long shifts and hard hours. But it’s a great feeling when the job gets completed and to hear how great of a job our team did.
What energizes you at work?
Teamwork and communication. When everyone is on the same page, the job operates smoothly and makes for a great day.
What do you find the most challenging in your role?
Training new employees. Trying to balance out teaching the trade to someone while also staying efficient can be tough.
What do you like most about working with APM?
Meeting new people and working in a safe environment.
How has APM helped you in your career development?
Through training. Working side by side with people who have the knowledge, skill, and leadership to do the job correctly.
What courses, certifications, or programs did you complete?
I have completed numerous classes. OSHA 30, Human Performance, Rigging Certification etc.
What is your proudest moment with APM?
I’d have to say earning Craftsman of the Year.
Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?
Andrew Sims. He has set the bar for me. He takes accountability, demonstrates pride, and keeps a respectful workplace. I’ve worked for Sims probably 5 out of the 7 years I’ve been in the industry.
How do you prefer to spend your days off?
I like to explore the area if I’m on a job or golf. When I’m off, I like to spend time with family and fish.
How do you balance your career at APM and family?
When I’m working it’s one sided. When I’m off I make up for it and make all of it count when I’m there.
What advice do you have for prospective APM candidates?
Work hard. Don’t try to know everything all at once. Persistence pays off.
What is a non-work-related accomplishment that you’re proud of?
Being a good father/husband and breaking the generational curse of poverty.
