What is a typical workday for you?
Addressing payroll and billing issues, creating quotes for customers, working with ODL’s for job set up, and updating craft rates are just a few of my daily responsibilities.
What energizes you at work?
Identifying issues and collaborating with peers to resolve them.
What do you find the most challenging in your role?
Timely communication and decision making within the company are two of the most challenging aspects of my role.
What do you like most about working with APM?
The team that I work with. They always have my back, and I know that we can resolve most issues with which we are faced.
How has APM helped you in your career development?
My employment with APM was not expected as I was not looking for a position at the time. A friend was looking for some administrative assistance and asked that I provide a resume and here I am 12 years later. Hoping to retire in the next 4-5 years.
What courses, certifications, or programs did you complete?
I have a Bachelor of Science in Education, but after graduation, I went into finance and have been primarily working in finance since the mid 1980’s.
Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?
My manager, Mary Volpe has been my mentor since coming onboard with APM. She has a work ethic comparable to no one I have ever met. She demonstrates daily patience in training and dealing with all the Job Specialists throughout the many divisions and businesses. I am truly blessed to have worked with Mary throughout my time with APM.
How do you prefer to spend your days off?
I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren - ages 3 and 4. I also enjoy motorcycling through the US as co-pilot with my husband and friends. My daughter and I enjoy thrift shopping. Never know what treasures we will find!
How do you balance your career at APM and family?
As I get older, I realize the importance of that balance. When the workday is done, I step away and become a wife, mother, and Gigi and cherish each of those roles more so than in my younger years.
What advice do you have for prospective APM candidates?
I can only speak from my experience as a Job Specialist - an individual will not be fully trained or comfortable in the Job Specialist role for at least 3 years. When they have arrived at that point, most systems, programs, and procedures will finally make sense and provide a good foundation to build on in future years.
What is a non-work-related accomplishment that you are proud of?
My greatest accomplishment in life has been raising three wonderful adults. They are all kind, empathetic, and hard working. My success as a parent is demonstrated in how they raise their children.
Theresa’s Surprising Fact
I worked for the IRS for 13 years helping to develop the TIP program and auditing fraudulent return preparers for federal prosecution.
Theresa’s Definition of Success
