Get the Buzz... APM Renewables Maintains Excellent Safety and Quality on Large Scale Boott Hydro Outage

APM Renewables mobilized on August 4, 2022, for the Boott Hydro jobsite in Lowell, Massachusetts where they remain active on site. This outage stemmed from an emergency service call for their assistance in the complete overhaul of two hydro generators, which includes disassembly, rewind, and reassembly. Even while accumulating over 15,300 manhours and counting, the APM Renewables team maintains a 100% safety and quality!
This ongoing outage is led by the Superintendents, Robert Blundon and Henry Desroches, who are assisted by Superintendents, James Donovan and Michael Lindo. At its peak, over 20 APM craftspeople were working between two shifts while participating on this large-scale site. Throughout this extensive project, there have been many instances where the scope has changed dramatically and STOP moments were initiated to refocus and change direction. These APM superintendents maintained a consistent high level of focus that has produced ZERO first aids, recordables, quality issues, or incidents with an ever-changing crew size on a large-scale job that has exceeded 12 months to date! Their rededication to safety and quality and collaborative efforts with the customer, IPS generator technicians, and other crews on site has not only mitigated the complacency that is at higher risk on long projects but also facilitated excellent performance!
This outage has proven to be a fantastic opportunity to gain new learnings, experiences, and build relationships. Due to the changing scope of work, the team has acquired significant experience in the removal and reinstallation of generator poles on each unit, with 60 poles each. From this ongoing project, they have also built a great relationship with the customer and crews and achieved career growth within the team!
Robert Blundon has been with APM since 2016. He started this project as a lead and has since been elevated to Superintendent, where he is now overseeing the entire project. His career elevation throughout this project was aided by his experience on this job, and he has proven to be fit for the role by keeping the site injury and incident free and managing the shifting work scope of managing through different engineers, crew sizes, and the ramping up and ramping down processes.
