A Questioning Attitude Makes All the Difference

Every action we take impacts the lives of others around us.” Arthur Carmazzi

APM is proud to raise appreciation for our teammate from Steam Services, Corey Yocom. On a recent project, Yocom was supporting operational checks in preparation for multiple high hazard lifts scheduled for the week and caught an error.

He identified a retaining nut that had been installed backwards on a lower crane block assembly and performed a STOP work process. After notifying his Superintendent, Juan Ramirez, and elevating the concern up the chain of site leadership, the onsite crane services confirmed the error and a work order was generated to correct the issue.

Yocom’s questioning attitude was extremely important to all working on the site because a second discrepancy was found when the crane services went in to address the retaining nut issue. It was further discovered that the sheave bearing was significantly damaged, and the entire main hook block assembly would need to be disassembled and repaired.

The crane representative stated that if the condition had gone unidentified and unaddressed, the lift could have failed with the load.

Yocom’s proactive behavior and success in mitigating hazards is what all APM craftspeople strive to achieve when the main goal is to return home safe and sound. He successfully executed a STOP work event upon identifying a concern and helped the team eliminate a potentially significant and grave outcome had the situation been left unaddressed. We applaud his outstanding advocacy for safety and responsibility for raising awareness.

Our APM Steam Services Team contributed more than just working hands and a good product on this job… They delivered safety, quality, and integrity in every task without missing a beat.
