Reflections | APM Pillar Showcase: Transparency
APM Team,
Transparency is often talked about as simply sharing information. But at APM, it’s much deeper than that. It is the bedrock of trust, the catalyst for speed, and the engine that moves our organization forward. This month, three of our leaders share their reflections on Transparency and how this pillar builds a culture of clarity, honesty, and alignment.
💡 The Definition
Bruce Bever, Chief Finance Officer: Proactive sharing of the "why" behind decisions, not just the numbers.
Martin Laverdiere, EHS Manager: Straightforward honesty. Open about what we know; equally honest about what we don’t.
Laurie Laube, Boiler - Operations Divisions Manager: Proactive disclosure—it’s not a task; it’s a mindset for every person in our organization.
🚀 Transparency in Action
Proactive Ownership: Teams don't wait for reports to flag risks. They speak up the moment they see a variance.
Collaborative Goal setting: We build forecasts with operational managers, not top-down.
Courageous Leadership: Delivering hard news with empathy and owning roadblocks instead of hiding them.
⚖️ Why It Matters
When transparency is missing, trust erodes, loyalty fades, and undesirable narratives fill the void.
Conversely, when we are transparent, we gain:
Better Speed: Alignment across the field.
Better Resilience: Adaptability for whatever market challenges emerge.
Stronger Engagement: Higher levels of ownership at every level.
🌱 Building a culture of Transparency …
A culture of Transparency does not happen automatically. It is built through daily choices—being proactive with information, asking for help when needed, and creating space for truth to be shared safely.
When we practice Transparency well, we strengthen trust, unlock better teamwork, and create better outcomes for our people, our teams, and our future.
Thank you, Bruce, Martin, and Laurie, for modeling Transparency.
