Meet APM Lead Job Specialist, Kiry King!

This month’s spotlight features APM Lead Job Specialist, Kiry King! Kiry started working with APM in 2003 right after high school. She was given this opportunity by the former finance manager in Watertown, MA office. Kiry proves to be a valuable member of APM through her roles as an Administrative Assistant, Region Office Coordinator and Job Specialist. Outside of work, she is a wonderful mom of three. What’s one thing that surprised you about working with APM?

You never ever stop learning. When you think you know it all, there’s always more to it or something changes with APM, Customer, Unions etc. that makes you rethink and adjust.


What is a typical workday for you?

My workday consists of reviewing/analyzing data, entering/updating data into multiple systems, solving problems, researching, auditing, and communicating to ODLs, customers and different departments across APM related to Jobs, POs, Pay Rate, Benefits, Agreements and Billing.

What do you find the most challenging in your role?

The frequent changes, but I do enjoy it at times as it keeps my job interesting.

What do you like most about working with APM?

The people I work with.

What is your proudest moment with APM?

Being recognized by the field that I am The Glue.

Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?

The team I worked with when I first started with APM, the APM Northeast/Rigging. It was so diverse, I had to keep rewiring my thought process. I was also taught to always support the field.

How do you prefer to spend your days off?


Take my family on a hike, lake, beach, or just relax at home and make or buy delicious food.

How do you balance your career at APM and family?

This is a tough one, especially during outage. I have to be very focus and follow all movements/changes coming from all directions and take proper actions to eliminate as much error as possible. I am very lucky to have a very supportive husband and family that helps with my kids which allows me to focus on my job. I also have a very supportive Job Specialist team that allows me to take time off without having to worry about work.

What advice do you have for prospective APM candidates?

Don’t be afraid to ask questions and share your ideas.

What is a non-work-related accomplishment that you’re proud of?

Buying our first home.

My family and I lived in multiple refugee camp sites in Cambodia/ Thailand for 8 years.
