APM Gas North Continues to Delight the Customer through Ongoing Learning
Our impressive team in the Gas North division hit another home run this spring at a power plant in Minooka, IL performing a GT major along with generator major on unit 4 and borescope on units 1, 2, & 3. We were on the same site last fall with excellent performance, and we wanted to wow our customer again! We did it!
Leading up to mobilization on 3/26, the Operations leadership completed several calls discussing the outage to ensure success. The job started out with two shifts, with one superintendent on each shift. Night shift concluded after the first week, and Dustin Adkins led out the remainder of the scope during day shifts. At the peak of disassembly, there were 12 crew members per shift, and we used a total of 33 craft professionals.
Live Outage tools and principles were executed on this job, and while the concept still has space to evolve and mature, some of the tools proved very useful. One especially notable tool was the Wind Finder application to help identify potential high wind gusts. Furthermore, the team identified some new best practices, such as applying tape to the stair rails to keep FME tape in place and create more grip.
As always, safety was the utmost priority, and the crew exercised excellent Safety Task Analysis discipline, including a very mature reflection process at the end of each task to ensure learning before the next task. Our team did experience one near miss related to a suspended load, but no injuries or damage of any kind was incurred. Following the event, the team did an excellent job conducting a safety stand down to address the concern and ensure learning took place.
In total, the job was executed with 7,582 manhours and demobilized on 5/7 with excellent delivery in safety, quality, and on-time delivery. Putting the right site leadership in place on this site is important. We were proud and confident in sending Dustin Adkins. He has built a strong relationship at the site, and the customer has expressed significant delight with his performance, requesting him on all outages. We extend a huge congrats to Dustin and everyone on the crew who delivered success! Thank you for your efforts!
