Meet APM Oil & Gas Superintendent, William Nance!
This month’s spotlight features APM Oil & Gas Superintendent, William Nance! William joined APM in 2017. Previously, William worked for Westinghouse and was on site at the same time as APM. He also worked for UPS and Exxon, where he met an APM employee, Ronnie Campbell, who encouraged him to join APM. We are so excited to spotlight William! What energizes William at work?
I enjoy being a mentor to the other millwrights. That’s why l like being a Level 3 Superintendent. I like explaining stuff and teaching people new things. Throughout my 28 years in the industry, I have enjoyed seeing people progress in their careers.
What does William find the most challenging in his role?
The responsibilities and making the right decisions, especially when working with an challenging customer.
What is William's proudest moment with APM?
My first complete job that Garry Syphrett sent me on. I was provided the drawings. The customer project manager talked me through the impeller work. Garry believed that I could do it, and I successfully completed the work.
How does William balance his career at APM and family?
It can be a challenge, but I have an understanding wife.
What’s one thing that surprised William about working with APM?
APM’s team is a close knit family. We share information and work together.
What does William like most about working with APM?
The leadership I have for providing me support. I always feel like I have the support I need to be successful.
What advice does William have for prospective APM candidates?
Go for it - It’s a great place to work and it’s family-oriented.
What life accomplishment is William most proud of?
I’m proud of my son for obtaining his millwright status.
Who has influenced William most when it comes to how he approaches his work?
Jerald Syphrett has influenced me through years of exposure and working together.
How has APM helped William in his career development?
Anything I have ever needed to learn, I have been able to get help with getting the material to learn. They have provided many tools and trainings.
What is a typical workday for William?
It’s a 12-hour day most days, but I like being busy. I like providing quality work completed safely to our customers.
How does William prefer to spend his days off?
I really enjoy being able to spend time with my grandson.

One customer called me “Willy”, and now other BakerHughes reps call me by that name too.
