Meet APM Finance Manager, Sharonda Young!
This month’s spotlight features APM Finance Manager, Sharonda Young! Sharonda joined APM in 2008 after learning about a position in Payroll from another employee, Stephanie McGowan, at their son's basketball game. She started out with APM as a Payroll Specialist, then became a Payroll Manger, and now holds her role as Finance Manager. Outside of work, Sharonda is also a proud mom to her son. What’s one thing that surprised you about working with APM?
Everyday is different and brings with it its own set of challenges and successes.
What is a typical workday for you?
I would never describe any APM workday as “typical”. For me, no day is ever the same.
What energizes you at work?
A Motivated Team, working together to accomplish goals.
What do you find the most challenging in your role?
Time, and not quite having enough of it in a day.
What do you like most about working with APM?
The amazing people that I have the opportunity to work with each day.
How has APM helped you in your career development?
APM has afforded me the opportunity to obtain multiple certifications over the years that led to career advancement opportunities.
What courses, certifications, or programs did you complete?
I have obtained both my US and Canadian payroll certifications. CPP (Certified Payroll Professional).
What is your proudest moment with APM?
Surviving my first payroll year-end and living to tell about it!
Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?
My parents.
How do you prefer to spend your days off?
I prefer to spend my days off listening to music, watching movies, and doing yoga.
How do you balance your career at APM and family?
This is always a work-in-progress.
What advice do you have for prospective APM candidates?
Seek out opportunities! Don’t wait thinking that they will find you. (i.e., the opportunity to work on or lead a project, collaboration with other departments, submitting a lean idea).
What is a non-work-related accomplishment that you’re proud of?
My son graduating from college.
