In March of 2024, a Gas Power team (along with a specialized Steam crew) traveled to Lake Whitney, Texas to conduct an outage at Calpine Bosque. The scope of the job entailed a hot gas path, rotor out, and generator inspections on two gas turbines as well as a steam turbine major with multiple upgrades. Led by APM Superintendents Andrew Sims, Chester Manymules, and Kolt Carden, the 35-man crew excelled with the tasks at hand.

 With such an intricate scope, multiple pre-job meetings were held across Calpine and GE Vernova to ensure proper execution. With dedication to safety and quality, the team conducted a STOP moment during the work scope on Gas Turbine 2. When it was time to roll the unit, the crew discovered that the turbine did not have a Koenig Turning Gear. Work was stopped, the issue was run up through the chain to the jobsite, and Calpine ultimately provided a pneumatic device that the team utilized for safe turbine rolling as a result.

 We are immensely proud of the work conducted by our Gas and Steam crews at Calpine Bosque. Not only were safety and quality top priorities throughout the outage, but the team managed to earn a perfect 5/5 score from the site. According to Gas Power Operations Division Leader, Chris Boudreaux, “Calpine stated that these APM teams were the most professional craft personnel they have ever had at this site with the best safety and quality they have seen as well.” The 35,299-hour outage was ultimately conducted with ZERO recordables – all home 100% safe.
