Get the Buzz... APM Steam Nuclear Delivers Pristine Performance at Riverbend!

In January of 2023, an 81-person crew from APM Steam Nuclear traveled to St. Francisville, Louisiana to conduct an outage at Riverbend Station. The scope of this project comprised of a High-Pressure Turbine Major, Main Stop Valve/Control Valve/Combined Intercept Valve inspections, and miscellaneous auxiliary work. To plan for such an intricate project, many meetings were held with team leaders. The pre-job site visit allowed us to determine the crew needed an earlier mobilization date to prepare for the job safely and adequately.

Safety and Quality remained the highest priorities throughout the outage. During a walkdown on one of the night shifts, it was discovered that an emergency exit was blocked on the outside of a roll-up door by a mobile crane. A STOP work was conducted, and the plant was notified immediately and cleared the obstructions. The crew also noticed that the outside of the door was not posted as an emergency exit, so the plant was informed accordingly. As a result, the plant committed to placing postings on the exteriors of all emergency exits. An excellent catch by the team and collaboration with the plant!

We are immensely proud of the work conducted by the Steam Nuclear Team at Riverbend. Both shifts were highly engaged in their tasks and Commitment Based Safety was prioritized during pre-job briefs. The 40,699-hour outage was completed with 100% Safety and Quality and ZERO recordables. Congrats and HUGE kudos to Frank McKnight, Nick Truitt, Brad Elliott, William Ritchotte, Cody Ward, James Jennings, Alex Hallwachs, Tim Harrison, Justin McDonald, Seth Wilkens and the rest of the crew at Riverbend for your outstanding Outage in Louisiana!
