Employee Spotlight | Meet APM Safety Champion, John Luther!

This month’s Employee Spotlight features APM Safety Champion, John Luther! John started working for APM as a Millwright in 2014 and has since worked his way up the ranks. He has found much success in his tenure and was nominated as Craftsperson of the Year for the Steam Fossil division in 2022. -       Parent of two

What is your official job title with APM?

-       Safety Champion 

-       SME/CM/General Forman 

 

What led you to this industry and how did you first learn about APM?

I first heard of APM through Jared Kennard. I was looking for work and Jared gave me a chance.

 

When did you begin working with APM and how many years have you been working with APM?

I started with APM in 2014, so 10 Years. 

 

What’s one thing that surprised you about working with APM? 

I was surprised how big they are on safety. If we need it to make the job safer, then they will get it for us.

 

 What energizes you at work?

Knowing I’m helping others improve. 

 

What do you find the most challenging in your role? 

Making sure everyone is staying safe while they are doing their task at hand.

 

 What do you like most about working with APM?

I enjoy getting to travel all over, see various places, meet new people and work on vast equipment.

 

How has APM helped you in your career development?

They provided the tools I needed to be successful in my life.

Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?

Jared Kennard and Jeff Lewis have certainly influenced me the most.

 

How do you prefer to spend your days off?

With my beautiful family, of course! Fishing is my favorite hobby.

 

How do you balance your career at APM and family?

I have a great wife that handles all of our home stuff while I’m away working! I also have a great support system.

 

What advice do you have for prospective APM candidates?

Keep your head down learn as much as you can and take all the advice. 

 

What is a non-work-related accomplishment that you’re proud of?

I’m proud of being a father.

Do you have a nickname at work?

 People call me Bull!

 

How do you define success?

I define success by giving my best effort every day and not giving up on the task at hand.
