We are enormously excited to announce APM Boiler Canada as this year's repeat recipient of the Tripartite Zero (Recordable) Injury Turnaround Award! APM Boiler’s top-tier health and safety emphasis received major attention at the TransAlta Sundance – Unit 6 Turnaround where over 61,000 craft hours were completed – injury free.

This year, a custom-etched trophy will be sent to the Canada Boiler office to sit next to their first award from 2020 and serve as a reminder of the honorable achievements and cumulative impacts that gained this positive recognition.

APM Boiler and supportive teams spent several months planning for the TransAlta Sundance – Unit 6 Turnaround, considering the safest and most efficient way to execute the project while including additional COVID protocols and guidelines. Approximately 350 APM craftspeople participated in the project that began approximately September 10th and ended October 25th of 2020.

The job included maintenance of an extensive work scope, which involved air heater bearings, a draft system and motor changeout of the boiler feed pump, HP heater drain pumps, 80/20 piping repairs, and much more at the Sundance Generating Plant located in Duffield, Alberta.

The brilliant team, led by Site Superintendents, Steve Chambers, Matt Johnson, Adam Nikirk, Rob Robertson, and Eckart Wuensche, utilized many safety tools such as CBS and STOP Work to emphasize incident mitigation and achieve the common goal of an outage with 100% safety delivered.

Their collective team efforts led to successful completion of over 61,000 work hours with ZERO recordable injuries. APM is extremely proud of the Boiler Canada team’s continued persistence in EHS awareness and thorough training to involve all site personnel in prioritizing health and safety. APM Boiler Canada has created a benchmark of excellence within the maintenance industry that will influence others to strive toward safety day after day, month after month, and year after year.

Congratulations to the supportive teams at TransAlta Sundance – Unit 6 for delivering an amazing job execution success at Sundance Generating Station and for receiving the Tripartite Zero (Recordable) Injury Turnaround Award again in 2021!
