APM Data Analytics & Business Intelligence Wins Dataiku Frontrunner Award
The Dataiku Frontrunner Awards celebrate data science and artificial intelligence builders who are pushing their field forward every single day. Dataiku industry executives and experts select winners and finalists who are making impactful advances within their industry. This year, the APM Data Analytics & Business Intelligence Team was recognized for their major development in predictive analytics to push APM as a top safety leader in the construction and maintenance industries.
Beginning in April of 2018, the APM Data Analytics & Business Intelligence Team created and later transformed their safety-conscious tool that effectively predicts high-risk occurrences by using the data behind craft-level jobs, customer project sites, and crews, to safely bring employees home.
At APM, safety, the keystone of the organization, is an element that is always improving. To combat safety issues that are present at job sites, we need to identify high-risk jobs, send safety professionals to sites, and provide additional training to employees. APM BI Database Manager, Aaron Crouch, coded and designed the initial model that interpreted data inputs present among all jobs: defects by job site history, superintendent defect history, employee ratings, lines of business, job duration, headcount, turbine type, work scope, and more.
Dataiku, an artificial intelligence and machine learning tool, combined the mentioned variables to compare safety and quality history from past jobs, and calculate the likelihood of presentable risks on anticipated craft-level projects. Their feature allowed the APM Data Analytics & Business Intelligence Team to view the variables that are causing high safety risks and contribute towards immediate changes at job sites. In three years, the team helped decrease safety and quality defects from 26% to less than 11%, meriting the Data Science for Good Award from Dataiku.
Senior Infrastructure Architect, Ryan Caldwell, Chief of Services, Julie Doyle, Strategic Compete Director, Adam Frank, Senior Data Analyst, Danielle Cormier, and Data Interns, Dominic Davis (previous) & Ram Pangaluri (current) have each contributed in various ways to this growing project.
Senior Data Analyst, Danielle Cormier, reflects on the importance of this award, “Keeping employees safe and returning home every day is important. We hope that this spotlight will encourage companies to look within and consider if they are doing all they can to bring their employees home safe each day.”
Let’s give a large congratulations to the APM Data Analytics & Business Intelligence Team for their Dataiku Frontrunner, “Data Science for Good” Award … and more importantly, their creativity and commitment to keeping our employees safe through the use of data!
