Organizational Announcement - Please welcome Alex Polhemus, our EHS Director
I am pleased to announce that Alexander “Alex” Polhemus joined Viceroy as our EHS Director effective today, July 9, 2018. Alex joins us with 8 years of professional EHS leadership experience and 10+ years of military service and leadership. He brings a proven record of collaborating cross-functionally to implement, assess, and improve safety strategies and procedures. Alex will be part of my leadership staff, working closely with myself and our leadership team to help us execute our blueprint and vision.
In this role, Alex will be responsible for creating a best-in-class safety culture through leadership of the company’s safety program to increase safety excellence and ensure all go home safe. Among his responsibilities are:
Driving the safety culture across the organization, including concepts such as Safety Task Analysis, Commitment Based Safety, STOP Work, etc.
Leading our team of EHS Managers to develop and implement EHS training, programs, practices, and standards to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory agency requirements (e.g. OSHA).
Providing direction to all Divisions and Regions to ensure all work sites adhere to Company EHS culture and policies, including collaboration and coordination with Operations.
Establishing regimented routines and processes to ensure effective review, management, oversight, execution, and measurement of EHS performance including jobsite and facility management and audit compliance.
Representing EHS within the shareholder’s upper management, end customer upper management, and other industry leaders, including involvement on committees or attendance at meetings of such groups.
Alex earned his Master of Science in Occupational Safety & Health (2013) from Columbia Southern University and Master of Business Administration in Finance (2016) from Columbia Southern University. During Alex’s career, he has demonstrated expertise in cross-functional team building and leadership, multi-cultural communications, change management, organization development, and quality improvement. We are confident that Alex’s leadership presence and EHS expertise will deliver the alliance we need to make the right strides toward safety excellence.
