Get the Buzz... APM Receives Multiple TAUC Awards!

We are incredibly proud to share that multiple APM divisions have again been recognized by The Association of Union Constructors (“TAUC”) for their dedication to outstanding outage execution and safety during the 2022 working year.

TAUC’s Joseph R. La Rocca Union Project of the Year Award is earned through outstanding work under a project labor agreement. Joe La Rocca (1925 - 2021) was a true pioneer in the union construction industry. He served as Executive Vice President of TAUC’s predecessor organization, The National Erectors Association, from its inception in 1969 until his retirement in 1986. In addition, he also served as the first Impartial Secretary of the National Maintenance Agreements Policy Committee Inc. (NMAPC) and was instrumental in spearheading its creation and shepherding its unprecedented growth throughout the 1970s and 1980s. His philosophy was simple: you don’t just serve the contractors, the participating unions and/or the owner; your service is an even higher calling to the union construction industry as a whole. That is a true testament to his – and TAUC’s – approach to leadership, and the reason why this award is named in his honor.

APM’s Fossil Steam Division, under Dave Carroll and Brett Kennard’s leadership, was awarded the Union Project of the Year Award in the Under $5 Million Category for execution of the Lightstone Gavin Spring 2022 Major Inspection. Awards are judged based on four criteria – collaboration/teamwork; construction quality and craftsmanship; project execution and scale; and safety.  The Gavin project - which incorporated a Unit 1 major on the low-pressure section of the reheat line and matching majors on the low-pressure section of the high-pressure line as well a forced outage on Unit 2 – exceeded all the required criteria.

The team was able to perform all inspections and repairs to reassemble both units with ZERO quality issues and ZERO recordable injuries, thanks to the excellent cooperation and teamwork with our customer and our Union Labor Partners – Millwrights Local 1090, UA Pipefitters Local 577, and Operating Engineers Local 18.  Two APM Safety Champions led the charge providing coaching opportunities while evaluating STA cards, leading daily Commitment Based Safety activities, conducting daily and weekly safety meetings, performing detailed hazard hunts and ensuring daily walks downs were completed.

Brett Kennard accepted the award at TAUC’s Leadership Conference held in May of this year.

Additionally, APM received TAUC’s Thomas J. Reynolds certificate for having a Days Away, Restricted or Transferred (DART) rate 25% or more below the national industry average rate in 2022. Our APM Boiler Division took home a Thomas J. Reynolds Category III award for reaching 100,000 - 499,999 manhours completed without a single DART case recorded. The 2022 recognition marks six consecutive years the APM Boiler Division has obtained this awesome safety goal.
