CEO Reflections ... Your Why Story

As we enter the final month of the year, I first say Thank YOU for all the good work you have delivered this year. Like any year, 2022 has had its share of successes and struggles (more success through the struggle IMHO). I will share more of my perspective on the APM year as we get closer to 12/31. I am confident we will finish the year well and be proud of the good work we have done.

This month we get to connect with family and friends, engage in some fun activities, and have opportunities to serve and say thanks. Hopefully during this time we can be present, in the moment, and experience the joy in the moment.

Often this month also brings a time to reflect. We are reminded of what – or whether who – is most important to us. And we are reminded of our WHY.

In APM we have discussed our WHY, but its been a little while.

 We had two blogs in early 2021 – What is your Why and Why I commit.

• We have an activity we do with new superintendents, developing the Stump Speech, that guides us in how to develop our Why.

• We have Why I Commit Badges you can order from the APM Gear Shop, with the statement “Ask me WHY I commit to safety …” on one side and a picture insert on the other. [Thanks again, Greg Gibbs and Zylphia Hansley, for the inspiration!]

I encourage you this December to be intentional about your time and pause in the moments of joy and build or refine Your Why.

And if you need any inspiration, watch this video shared by the Ironworkers International Union. It is a powerful WHY story.

I appreciate that’s easier said than done. Jobs are still ongoing and will continue through the month. As of last week, we had ~1500 craft teammates working 75K+ hours. Further behind the scenes, many will be busy finalizing the 2022 ##s and closing the books. Some are heavy into 2023 spring prep. Others are looking further ahead into 2024++ and the value APM will bring to GE Vernova. To all of you – Thank YOU! for your sacrifices. Each of YOU are a big part of my Why.
