Meet APM Specialty Services Blade Technician, Greg Weever!

This month’s spotlight features APM Specialty Services Blade Technician, Greg Weever! Greg started working with APM in September 2014 when he was originally hired to help get the LMS-100 Aero Program off the ground. He was inspired in his first week as an Apprentice when his instructor said that APM Specialty Services are the Navy Seals of the industry. These confident words set the bar and, in turn, Greg set his sights on getting hired into the Blade Tech Program. Those hopes became the reality he's living today. Outside of work, he actively participates with local and national racing programs for Motocross and SnoCross. We are so excited to spotlight Greg! Read more to get to know his interesting history, proudest moments, and unique perspectives.

What’s one thing that surprised you about working with APM?

When I came to APM, “the brotherhood – FAMILY” is what I couldn’t believe. This family is very tight knit like no other. You’ll never experience anything else like it, I love this family!

What is a typical workday for you?

Typically, we work 10–12 hour days, and the scope is variable as to what and where we come into the outage/equation. We perform a couple dozen different blading and machining scopes, so every day can be different.

What energizes you at work?

Honestly two things, I really like the comradery of my brothers and seeing what we have accomplished at the end of the day.

What do you find the most challenging in your role?

Traveling. It is a double-edged sword that allows for many great experiences and exploring places that most people would never get to go but trades time with your family and friends to do it.

What do you like most about working with APM?

I have to repeat myself on this one: this tight knit family I work with!!!

How has APM helped you in your career development?

I’d say my journey with APM has helped enhance my organizational skills, time management, and accountability. I feel that being a Blader has always been held to a higher standard due to the high mechanical risk and accountability associated with the tasks we perform, and I really like that.

What courses, certifications, or programs did you complete?

Each year I take a multitude of GE Learning courses. I’ve been through the UBC Superintendent Program, and numerous Blade Tech trainings for both Tier 1 & Tier 2 scopes on multiple frame sizes and technologies, and a lot of on-the-job training.

What is your proudest moment with APM?

I say this humbly - the President’s Award and Inclusiveness Award.

Who has influenced you most when it comes to how you approach your work?

While there are more than one, I honestly have to say my brothers in this program have been the biggest influence. I realize some things for me are self-driven, which I am, but I didn’t get to where I’m at on my own. I am somewhat a product of who we are. I just try to be a good representative for our group.

How do you prefer to spend your days off?

If it’s wintertime, then I race SnoCross. If it’s not winter, then I spend my time racing motocross and biking around 350-400 miles a week to maintain top physical shape to enhance my racing performance and endurance. I enjoy spending time with my “fur kids” (dogs), my girlfriend, and training all year around.

How do you balance your career at APM and family?

Balance is tough but you just make it work. You must weigh out the pros and cons with everything in life.

What advice do you have for prospective APM candidates?

I tell everyone that APM is a great place to work and has afforded me and my family a great life through work opportunities and career path.

What is a non-work-related accomplishment that you’re proud of?

This last Snocross season I finished 6th Nationally. I worked extremely hard for that. I even did it on a torn knee, so that was tough... but worth it.
