APM’s Tri-force Team Fulfills TVA’s Work Scope with Safety and Quality Win

APM Gas, Boiler, and Specialty Services brought full force craft-power to TVA Paradise Combined Cycle Plant back in April. The heavy-hitter APM craft team consisting of Superintendents, Operating Engineers, Boilermakers and Millwrights, knocked out multiple extensive work scopes across three units and a Toshiba steam turbine generator.

Units 1 and 2 received annual inspection support and repairs, including additional inlet duct repairs. Unit 3 received a detailed inspection, repair, and a hot gas path inspection. Crews familiar with the site hit the ground running while informing new team members with TVA’s site-specific training and procedures.

Planning is Essential

During pre-outage planning, teams were assigned ample time to discuss potential challenges and solutions to navigate potential hazards at the site. On site, all teams were given additional time to comprehensively discuss every detail of each task by utilizing APM's Safety Task Analysis cards and participating in Hazard Hunts. This strategy proved to be very effective when executing the outage as there were ZERO safety or major quality incidents throughout the timeline of the project. Expectations were set to follow all field procedures resulting in high quality work that did not need to be revisited for additional maintenance.

Strategic Selection of Crews Played into Safety and Quality Success at TVA

Subject Matter Expert Millwrights, local Millwrights, and local Boilermakers familiar with TVA's stringent policies and procedures were recruited to the site. Returning teams led by Superintendents, Ray Caggianelli, John Davenport, Maury “Chip” George, Jason Hall, Jose Mireles, and Dennis Luzynski, were influenced with a go-getting attitude while leadership reinforced safety and quality culture to execute the work scope and deliver customer wins.

APM’s Gas Services Team, Specialty Services Team, and Boiler Team all worked in complete harmony to achieve a successful outage and received praise from a site representative. “Thanks for a successful outage, the team you provided to Paradise Combined Cycle reflected well upon GE & our continued partnership,” complimented TVA’s Outage Manager, Joe Wiser.

Congratulations to our expert craftspeople for exceeding expectations and delivering a world-class outage by driving 100% safety and quality at TVA Paradise!
