APM Steam in the South Leads Outage with Safety and Quality Excellence for Our Returning Customer

During the outage that began in September 2020, our APM Steam Team had 11 craftspeople conducting the day shift and 10 working the night shift. Our group of experts maneuvered around many schedule changes while remaining cohesive in communication. Lead by APM Superintendent David Baker Jr., the team utilized tools such as Safety Task Analysis cards, pre-job discussions, and refocus meetings to keep safety at the forefront of all tasks, delivering APM's standard of excellence for our customer.

The D-6 Steam Turbine Major outage required many parts within the turbine to be removed and sent off for repairs. This consisted of removing a combined HP/IP rotor and single LP rotor for blade reparations. Diaphragms and an HP nozzle were also removed for regular maintenance repairs.

Our skillful crew of millwrights, an operating engineer, and laborer executed and reinstalled critical valve work at the site. Oil pumps, stator cooling pumps and hydrogen pumps were also rebuilt while on site. Once the parts returned, all internal alignment tasks on the diaphragms and nozzles were aligned within the shell. A minor generator inspection was conducted with high attention to detail.

Our customer was especially complimentary of our workforce providing first-class technical expertise while performing each task in a safe and quality manner. Our customer representatives stated they were very pleased with the outage and are planning to request the same APM experts for future outages.

Thank you to Matt Russell, James Seals, Richard Shaw, William (Willy) Crooks, and all supportive crew members by remaining vigilant in serving our customer with safety and quality excellence for their outage needs!
