Collective Adaptability Helps APM Reach for Success at Vistra Energy

The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” - Albert Einstein

APM, along with GE and Fieldcore, successfully completed several outages across 45 units for Vistra Energy throughout the Spring outage season.

Our long-standing relationship with Vistra Energy has developed over many years as we continually sustain our partnership with high-level performance and prioritization of safety in everything we do.

At the cusp of March, when the rise of the pandemic struck many cities across the nation, our devoted teams were mobilized, and daily leadership calls were made to decide the best ways to adapt to the site and state restrictions. Temperature scans, COVID-based screenings, and face covering requirements were some of the most important protocols implemented to ensure the health and safety of all members working on site.

APM millwrights successfully acclimated to these protocols and the use of face coverings despite working in hot and humid conditions. Our team was able to instill these adaptions to each Vistra site while overcoming challenges that arose during the course of the outages.

Forney Site

• Resource and schedule adjustments were made to execute an unplanned outage in addition to a planned quadruple outage on time.

Odessa Site

• The team on site discovered seal journals that were undersized and fast-tracked newly customized seals from an identified supplier to remain on schedule.

Midlothian Site

• An initial machining vendor canceled their services due to COVID-19 related concerns, and the team sourced an alternate vendor in a timely manner.

The adjustments at each of these sites represents the cohesion and adaptability of APM teams. They displayed their ability to change course in direction while keeping the greater goal in mind. All units were restored safely with two days to spare on schedule. Close collaborations allowed strong execution in safety, quality and integrity.

Dedication to our cultural pillars while remaining cost competitive validates why Vistra continues our strong partnership.

Thank you to APM, GE, Fieldcore, and all supportive subcontractors who committed to the safety of our teams during execution of major projects within this season!
