Leadership Reflections – Year End Optimism

Thank YOU! all of you, 1APM for delivering another solid year.

We have a lot to be proud of in 2024 … plus some things to improve in 2025. Success & Learnings – hallmarks of a meaningful year.

We will share more specifics regarding our 2024 performance and 2025 focus once the new year rolls in.

Over the next couple of weeks, I encourage all of us to make some time to reflect on the past and think about the future. As we do, I share three things that give me optimism.

#1 Recent Customer Comments.  Our APM (as part of the larger GEV team onsite) has received many 5* ratings in 2024. A couple of comments:

  • It was a good experience. The guys from APM and APCom worked well with us and the job went well.

  • On-site team for GE did a fantastic job with handling all aspects of the outage.

  • GE has been able to send the same crew which makes for a seamless outage.

  • The crew that was sent to site was extremely knowledgeable and professional. They communicated any quickly and efficiently. The crew also worked well with our technicians. They were like an extension of our crews.

  • Communications were excellent, the team that was identified and sent to site to conduct the work was excellent, knowledgeable, and forth coming with information which helped all of us work through issues and keep the outage on track.

  • Exceeds expectations. … Communication is excellent. GE/APM were very easy to work with and knowledgeable. Very strong focus on safety and quality.

#2 Future of Power.  In the past weeks there have been many articles highlighting the demand for more power. Our countries and the world need energy, which means they need us.

#3 Saying No means Saying Yes.  In our last Reflections blog - Standards à Respect & Empowerment – I wrote, “Saying NO to non-standard work means saying no to higher risks of errors and rework (injuries, escapes). It also is making Time & Resources available to say YES to standard work, which has a higher confidence of excellence.”

In his article “This is Your Reminder to Say ‘NO’,” Ryan Holiday emphasizes the importance of declining certain requests to prioritize what truly matters. He reflects on historical examples, such as President Harry S. Truman’s practice of politely refusing engagements, to illustrate that saying “no” to some opportunities allows for a more focused and meaningful commitment to others. I encourage you to read the full article here (7 min read) and consider what “yes” responses best align to our values and goals.

My final encouragement: While I do think it’s good to reflect and think, I mostly encourage you to be in the moment this holiday season. For many of us that is with our loved ones. For others of us it is on a jobsite delivering another excellent outage experience or in the backroom closing out the financials. Be where your feet are.

May we all enjoy a safe, healthy, and blessed holiday season.
