Get the Buzz... APM Boiler Delivers Excellence in Sun or Snow!

On February 6th, APM Boiler was called to an emergency outage at Tufts Cove in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. While respondent teams were ready to roll within a few hours’ notice, they’d soon learn that the weather would provide its own challenge. A recent storm had recorded 160+ centimeters (roughly 63 inches) of snowfall in parts of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Quality Control (QC) Superintendent, Matthew Muise, was one the first to head to the site. He reportedly had to dig his way through immense blockage to obtain his gear at Lingan (a local jobsite) before driving five hours to Tufts Cove. An incredible feat of dedication! As a result of the snowfall, Nightshift Boilermaker, John Turnbull, was unable to utilize his personal vehicle for transportation. Fortunately, he was able to be picked up on a main road nearby to be transported to Lingan and then Dartmouth. Again, remarkable. We are thankful for dedicated employees who are willing to answer the call to action!

Once the 11-person crew completed mobilization, they transitioned to focus on the task at hand – replacing a leaking water wall tube. The crew underwent a three-day outage, completing the job with pristine safety and quality. The outage totaled 540 manhours, and everyone was able to travel home safely.

While the scope at hand was common work for the crew, the extreme snowfall proved to be a separate challenge to bear. Nevertheless, the group overcame adversity, endured the weather, and delivered outage excellence with safety and quality at the top. Congrats and HUGE kudos to the below crew for your success at Tufts Cove!
