Winning Along the U.S. Gulf Coast

Our APM Specialty teams have shown incredible determination and skill in the installation of the Corpus Christi LNG’s Train 1 and Commissioning project since February 2018 in Corpus Christi, TX. This is a major milestone, both in the progress of the worksite, and also for our own growth and exposure as a company. Our consistent delivery of safe, high caliber work is what sets us apart within our industry.

The LNG tanker, The Stena Clear Sky, is 977 feet in length with a 109,949 gross tonnage. On the port and starboard sides of the ship there is a dragon. The inscription on the side reads: “Gas should always travel first class.”

All teams and contractors onsite have worked diligently for two years to reach this win through hurricanes, holidays, and several other challenges. In February of 2019, the TR 1 Corpus Christi Performance test was completed. The first LNG was produced and tanker was loaded on February 24th.

Our representation on this collaborative, multi-entity site included field management, Andy Childers and Bill Nance, who led a welding and millwright team that provided tubing, piping, pump, motor, and mechanical support. Further into the project, we added two technical advisors for various equipment installations and commissioning support.

Future work for this site includes emissions testing tentatively scheduled to take place in May 2019, with performance testing to start in June 2019 on TR 2. Materials specialist coverage is projected to be busy April through June, followed by installation activities on the next train (TR3). Commissioning, start up, and mechanical runs are forecasted for fall of 2020 and performance testing in Spring 2021. Each train consists of six LM2500 aeroderivative turbines, four gear boxes, eleven MCL compressors, two BCL compressors, as well a large number of motors and pumps.

This job began as a three-man, two-week project that has grown in manpower and scope. It has evolved into an eighteen-person endeavor currently totaling nearly 17,000 hours and still growing. APM also represented the only union personnel onsite. We displayed strong capabilities while highlighting our collaborative nature and building meaningful relationships for future opportunities.

We take extraordinary pride in the APM team for delivering on this project milestone. This installation correlates with our projected growth and expansion plans along the U.S. Gulf Coast. The customer was highly complimentary, and we wish all involved a hearty congratulations!
