Turning a Challenge into a Story of Success

Our Company is known for consistently providing safe, effective, and efficient customer service. There is, however, another thing that our Company is known for; the same dedicated service, even when a team is faced with multiple unforeseen challenges. A crew from APM Nuclear recently took this standard of resilience in the face of challenge to incredible heights. The team’s initial task was to perform an HP dense pack for Exelon Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, located on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay near Lusby, Calvert County, Maryland.  It was the 2nd outage performed by APM at Calvert Cliffs and it was a product of joint-innovation from GE and Alstom. The team not only succeeded in completing the job, but also did so while addressing other issues that arose on-site, including drilling 45 broken nozzle bolts and resolving various manufacturing and design issues in equipment. The team’s crowning achievement in this job is perhaps the fact that the crew accomplished all of this (despite over three days of critical delays) in just 18 days, as opposed to the usual 22-day worktime, with no errors in human performance or safety.  We would like to congratulate everyone involved in this success.  Thanks to Superintendents Rich Pignataro and Brad Ormsby, Jr. for leading their teams, along with Foremen Andrew Vettle, Gary Holmes, Teri Jessop, James Orth, Walter Andrews, and Logan Sessions. Gina Vimarco was also recognized by the customer for her stellar work for in-processing, her performance and attention to details, and professionalism. The customer particularly commented on how well this team worked together and seemed to enjoy themselves.  Congratulations to all for a job very well done.
