Leadership Reflections – Superintendent & Craft Awards

Wow! What a night! We celebrate the very best, not only in APM, but in the world of power gen craft services. I am confident you agree.

To all the Award Winners: Congrats! The recognition is well deserved. You are the best of the best. Thank you for delivering excellence for APM.

To all our Superintendents: You want to be recognized as the best in 2024 (or want a craftsperson to be recognized)? Here’s how:

• Stats: Prove your engagement in our culture. Use the APM (Balmert) Leadership Tools. Raise open reports – STOP, Hazard Hunt, other concerns. Deliver safety and quality on your job, and impact the safety and quality of your Division.

• Stories: Make relationships with your Division Leaders, your GE Vernova peers, and your Customers who will advocate for you. These are the stories each Division includes in the write-ups (ex: quotes from peers, comments in CX feedback).

• Impact: Accept opportunities beyond your job to impact others. Be a mentor to the next gen of Supers. Engage in a kaizen to improve a process. Ask for an assignment that is challenging yet rewarding.

Finally, this night is a favorite of mine and many in our APM family. I say family purposefully – it’s my top reflection each year. Many of our award winners bring their spouses (and kids). The families dress up in their best outfits. They take pictures. They clap loudly. They cry. It’s a big deal … and that’s purposeful. Every APM leader who spoke discussed the performance of the winner and the sacrifice of the family who sees their husband/wife, dad/mom leave for weeks to keep our lights on. We respect that and are very thankful for the winners and their families.

I am proud of these winners, and I am humbled to be with them and their families. This night reminds me how proud I am to serve our APM with you.
